Our Core Values

In pursuit of  our mission, Beacon rests upon three core tenets – Courage, Empathy, and Relevance. These core values are infused throughout our practices, systems and internal culture.

Courage:

The ability and willingness to face challenges without retreating.

At Beacon, courage is the bedrock of our virtues. We provide the framework necessary for Scholars to discover the value and power of their traditional and differentiated intellectual and moral  courage.

Empathy:

The action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experience of another.

Through deliberate practice, Scholars learn about cultures that are different from their own, participate in academic discourse that exposes them to disparate and competing worldviews, and examine historically marginalized groups through the lenses of equity and fairness. Respectively, Scholars come to know who they are and  they construct their own expansive perspective which aligns with their understanding and appreciation of interrelatedness and the inherent value of all people.

Relevance:

Learning experiences that are connected in some way to real-world issues, problems, and contexts.

At Beacon, we believe the spark to higher order cognitive demands required for Scholars to create, analyze, synthesize and evaluate is harnessed at the radical center of personal, cultural and life relevance.
